Testing Migolla for a Creative Portfolio Website

I was working on a redesign for a creative portfolio site recently, and I needed a font that would feel both professional and approachable. The client wanted something that reflected their personality—playful but not too casual, elegant yet friendly. That’s when I stumbled upon Migolla, a fun and casual handwritten script font from Script Amp.

At first glance, Migolla stood out with its organic, flowing strokes and subtle imperfections that gave it a hand-drawn feel. It wasn’t too ornate or over-the-top, which made it versatile enough to work across different sections of the site. I decided to test it in the hero section, where the main headline would be displayed against a full-screen image of the client’s artwork.

When I placed Migolla over the image, it didn’t get lost in the background. The contrast between the soft curves of the font and the bold colors of the artwork created a nice balance. It felt like a natural extension of the visual theme without overpowering the content.

Migolla also worked well in the navigation bar. I used it for the main menu items, and even though the font is script-based, it remained legible at smaller sizes. This was important because readability on mobile devices is crucial for user experience. I made sure to keep the font size just right so that it didn’t become hard to read when viewed on smaller screens.

Another area where Migolla shone was in the call-to-action section. The client wanted to encourage visitors to download their resume or contact them directly. Using Migolla for the CTA button text added a touch of personality, making the action feel more inviting rather than pushy. It helped create a sense of warmth and approachability that aligned with the brand’s tone.

I also experimented with using Migolla in the blog section. For post titles, it added a nice decorative flair without making the content feel too informal. I paired it with a clean sans serif font for the body copy, which kept the overall design balanced and easy on the eyes. This font pairing strategy is common in web design—using a display font like Migolla for headings and a simpler font for body text ensures readability and visual hierarchy.

One thing I noticed while testing Migolla was how it affected the overall mood of the site. The font has a relaxed and friendly vibe that complemented the client’s personal style perfectly. It helped establish a stronger emotional connection with the audience, making the website feel more authentic and human.

Of course, I had to consider the technical aspects as well. Checking the font’s webfont availability was important to ensure it loaded quickly and performed well across different devices. Migolla came with several weights and alternates, which gave me flexibility in how I used it throughout the site. I also verified that it supported multiple languages, which was essential since the client occasionally featured international clients on their site.

For the final layout, I used Migolla primarily for headers, section titles, and decorative accents. It wasn’t used for long paragraphs or body text, which is typical for script fonts—they’re best suited for short phrases and headlines. This approach kept the site visually cohesive while maintaining clarity and readability.

Overall, Migolla proved to be a great choice for this project. Its casual yet refined appearance fit the brand’s identity, and its versatility allowed it to be used in various parts of the website without compromising usability. Whether you're designing a creative portfolio, an online store, or a coaching website, Migolla can add a unique touch that helps your brand stand out.

If you're looking for a script font that feels modern and adaptable, Migolla from Script Amp is definitely worth considering. It's a premium font that offers both style and functionality, making it a solid addition to any digital design toolkit.
